A Worcester apprentice swapped the office for a construction site to gain an insight into the world of development.

Apprentice Nyah Allen visits a Beech Grove Homes site

Beech Grove Homes provided Nyah Allen, a business and administration apprentice at Sanctuary Group, with the opportunity to visit its Newlands development in Stoke Lacy, Herefordshire, where it is putting the finishing touches to 28 new homes.

Nyah spent time away from her day job by shadowing senior construction manager Simon Parkman and clerk of works Chris Bonness as they oversaw the snagging of properties.

Her visit was in support of National Apprenticeship Week and gave her the opportunity to see how the fixtures and fittings of new homes are checked to ensure they are of the highest standard.

Nyah said: “I have never been to a site like this so it was good to be in a different environment from the office and see how new homes are constructed.”

Nyah has been an apprentice with social housing and care provider Sanctuary since September 2018 and has previously shadowed staff in its procurement, recruitment and care divisions.

She added: “I think I have developed a lot with my confidence and knowledge of the organisation during my apprenticeship. It’s so varied and I have gained a lot of different skills that I can use throughout my career.”

Beech Grove Homes is delivering a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom family homes at Stoke Lacy for purchasing options such as shared ownership, Help to Buy and outright sale.
